George Sauter

George Sauter is a seasoned healthcare executive and independent consultant with over 30 years of experience helping healthcare Boards and senior leadership navigate strategic planning, innovation adoption, and business development—with a growing focus on telehealth and digital transformation.
Recently retired as Chief Strategy Officer at John Muir Health, a nationally recognized integrated health system in Northern California, George played a pivotal role in expanding the organization’s digital front door, advancing telehealth capabilities, and developing strategic partnerships that positioned the health system for long-term success in a rapidly evolving healthcare environment.
At John Muir Health, George led enterprise-wide strategic planning, consumer engagement, marketing, communications, and digital health strategy. He was instrumental in the system’s innovation initiatives, including telehealth integration, clinical service line expansion, and building new care delivery models that improve access, affordability, and outcomes.
Before joining John Muir Health, George was a Senior Partner at The Chartis Group, where he co-led the national Clinical Transformation Practice and oversaw major strategy engagements for leading health systems across the western U.S.
His consulting portfolio includes work with organizations such as Kaiser Permanente, UC Health, Intermountain Healthcare, HealthPartners, and Providence, many of which involved network redesign, digital care delivery planning, and scalable telehealth models.
Earlier in his career, George was a partner at CSC Healthcare/APM Management Consultants, where he advised clients on managed care strategy, organizational alignment, and system-wide performance improvement.
George holds a B.S. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He remains active in nonprofit leadership and community service. Outside of work, he’s an avid skier and surfer, and enjoys time with his wife Susan and their two grown children.
