Prior to retiring he joined Via Christi Health in March 2012 as Senior Vice President of Information Services and Chief Information Officer. He has significant experience in partnering with clinicians to design and implement IT solutions to support a patient-centered, integrated practice of medicine.
Abdul came to Via Christi Health from the Mayo Clinic, where he served as Chief Information Officer since 2001. He joined Mayo in 1977 as a lead systems programmer and progressed to division chair, department vice chair and then department chair and CIO.
He collaborated with Medical Practice, Education, Research and Administration senior leadership to develop a twelve-year IT roadmap that aligned with the Mayo Clinic strategic plan which provided a unified, integrated, coordinated and standard IT environment promoting a culture of safety, quality, service and innovation to meet the needs of the patient.
During 2008, Abdul led the establishment of Healthcare IT Standards and Interoperability Coalition, comprised of twelve major health care system and fifteen major IT providers, to advance HIT standards and interoperability to enable a high value healthcare system in US.
Abdul received his bachelor’s from California State Polytechnic University with a major in computer science. He earned a mini master’s in management information systems from the University of Minnesota. He is involved in a number of professional and charitable organizations.
Abdul Bengali retired in October 2015 from Via Christi Health.
